Why A Avon Representative Should Keep A Time Log

I have some questions for you Avon Representatives. Are you using your best time on the most important things. How could you spend your time in a better way? Getting a realistic picture of your time will help you to be more in control of your Avon business.

 It’s a common belief that an effective executive follows three steps when trying to manage their time better;

1. They analyze the way that use their time and think about ways that they could use it better.

2. They fined wasteful and unproductive uses of their time and reduce the systematically.

3. They consolidate their time into large chunks that they can use to do the must important work.

To do step one you need to keep a record of your time. I asked you to do this in the post “What Are You Doing With Your Day Avon Representative. A Time Management Activity”.

You start by keeping a time log. Through out the day you write down exactly how much time you are spending on each activity. At the end of the day you will go back over the log to see if you spent it effectively.

After keeping a time log for a few days most people are really surprised by how they are actually using their time. And how much time they are wasting on unproductive busy work and distractions. Another surprise is how long it really takes to complete things.

You should keep a time log for a week to get a good sample of how you spend your typical day and what parts of the day are your most productive time. When you have a better understanding of how you go about your typical day you will see where you are wasting time on unimportant activities and tasks.

At the end of the week go over and circle all the wasteful uses of your time. You can than figure out ways to reduce or eliminate them or out-sources them.

The next step is to go over the time log and decide which activities and tasks you should be spending your time on. You can also identify and write down projects you COULD be doing with your time. By doing this you will reduce the wasteful by starving them of your time and focus. It will shift your attention to the important and urgent things.

Now you can consolidate your time into large chunks that you can use for the most important things that you must do. This is very important because most people need a large chunk of time to do work that is most effective and productive. And also creative and knowledge full.

Knowledge work requires you to have a mental context to do the work. In order to be productive, and for the proper mental context to form can take as much as 10 minutes. If you only work on a project for 15-20 minutes and you have to stop to work on something else, you are never getting into your productive groove. You will in a fact produce inefficient work.

Decide how much time you need for each activity or task and plan to spend 1 hour blocks though out the day or each day. On each of these think of them as appointments or meetings. Then let all the other things fall into your schedule.

This is not a boring exercise, a few minutes of writing down this information each day for a week will in the end eliminate hours of wasted time.
